Using Text Only Vs Text and Image With Adsense Ads

I just noticed something interesting on my forum The Free Ad Forum. I had set up my Adsense ads to show both text and images. I figured it would look cooler plus it would convert better. The problem was many times I was seeing the same image ads displaying in different formats all over my forum at the same time. Common sense tells you that if people see the same banner in 3 different places at once they are only going to click on one of them. Why click on the same banner 3 times? So I changed some the ads to show text only. The default for Google Adsense is text and image ads. My earning immediately started to rise because DIFFERENT ads were showing on my site. The same 3 banners were not taking up all my ad space.

I remember reading in one of the zillion guru emails I received that Google actually cannot sell all of it’s image ad space so many times they run public service ads in those spots. That is why I was seeing the same banner ads over and over. They just did not have enough inventory of the image ads. Everyone is just submitting text ads.

This tells me that there is opportunity to advertise with Google with image ads. However, on my site I am choosing just to have one block which will show image/text ads and the other which shows text only ads. This gives a better experience for my viewer because they are seeing a wider diversity of ads. Also, there is more chance that they will click on the ads because repeat visitors to my forum will see different ads not the same 3 banners. So do not just go with the Google default setting if image/text ads. See what works best on your site. I would appreciate any feedback from others who have experimented with image vs text ads with Google Adsense. Thank you. Matt.

P.S. Here is a screen shot of this blog post right after I made it. See the two exact same banner ads? Below this there is a Google public service ad. I need to follow my format of only one image ad block per page on my blog too! I just have not had the time to change it I just changed it on the forum LOL!

Hi,

Would you be able to tell me how to make my adsense ads running on the prosense theme to display text only and not image ads? I’d greatly appreciate it.

You need to log into your Adsense account and create new ads and choose text only. Looks like I need to do it again too. I did an update and uploaded old files. Just been too busy. But you have to do it for your Adsense account when you create the ads choose text only then put those ads into your Prosense theme in the Adsense files.

Hey everyone, I am a newbie so I have a doubt, which many of you will find to be stupid. Me and my friend were discussing if Text ads or Text/image ads are better and which is better at which spot. My friend argued that it is better to have text ads at the top of the page and text and image ads towards the side. I said it is better to have image ads towards the spot which will make people notice it and click it, but my friend argues that people prefer text ads and click it more than image ads. Also when there is an image ad, there is just one advertisment in that area, when when we use text ads, there are ads of three to four different products/companies. So which position should image ads appear and where should text/image ads appear? Forgive me for being so lame.
